Waterfront Restaurant in La Crosse, WI
The Waterfront Restaurant and Tavern in La Crosse has been one of our favorite places since they opened in 2006. Their beautiful location on the mighty Mississippi River is just one of the reasons this truly unique dining establishment found its way onto our list of the “best of the best.” (You might remember that we also featured them on our blog post, 10 of the Most Delicious Restaurants in La Crosse.) Here’s some of the reasons you can’t miss the Waterfront Restaurant and Tavern on your next trip to our area.
Patio with Incredible Views
The comfortable and beautiful patio at the Waterfront is one of the best places to relax in La Crosse. Watch as the peaceful Mississippi River flows by, along with paddleboats, barges, and other river traffic. Iconic Pettibone Park is directly across the river, and you can also see the historic Big Blue Bridges. Gently heated and completely covered, this lovely and comfortable patio provides outdoor seating for more than just perfect summer nights. During the summer, they host a lovely brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10-2.
Fine Dining (and Drinking) in the Tavern and Restaurant
The Tavern, an exquisite antique bar, serves its own menu of yummy appetizers and often features live music. The cocktails are unique and they have one of the best wine selections in the area. Happy Hour (a favorite of locals and tourists alike) is Monday – Friday, 3-6. The fish tacos or burgers with a glass of wine (two for the price of one!) is a great way to kick off the weekend. The restaurant, a true fine dining establishment, is intimate and elegant – a perfect place for a romantic date or a special occasion. Their menu items are always fresh, and are changed out seasonally, plus there are daily chef specials. So there’s a new “favorite” dish waiting every time you visit. The sushi menu also rotates, and all the food is absolutely delicious, artfully plated, and worth every penny!
You already know that the Waterfront is, well, waterfront, but they are also conveniently located near lots of unique things to do in La Crosse. Take a short walk north to Riverside Amusement Park for some mini golf, go karts, and batting cages, which makes for a fun family night or a date night full of laughs. They are also within walking distance to some of La Crosse’s best arts and culture: the Weber Center for the Performing Arts, the La Crosse Community Theater, and the Pump House Regional Arts Center.
The patio dining is first come, first serve, so if you need reservations, the restaurant will be happy to accommodate you. The restaurant and tavern aren’t open for lunch on Saturdays or Sundays, so if you’re looking for brunch or lunch on the weekend, plan on patio dining. Lunch is served in the restaurant Monday – Friday from 11 – 2. If you’re in the armed forces, ask about their military discounts (the owner is prior service). And for large events, they can accommodate up to 400 guests.
