The Snowflake Golf Course in Westby, WI, is unlike any course you’ve ever teed off on before.
Snowflake Golf Course, Westby
The gorgeous Snowflake Golf Course is the perfect place to go if golfing in a beautiful, scenic area is on your list of things to enjoy in Wisconsin. Situated between the bluffs of the Timber Coulee Creek and at the base of five ski jumps, the views on this 9-hole, par 3 course are not to be missed!
A Round of Golf
The course eases players into the field with the highest handicapped (aka easiest) hole number 1. Then, with a direct view of ski jumps off the tee box of the second hole, players will be required to cross the spring-fed creek to find the green. By hole number 6, be ready for another amazing view of the full sized Olympic ski jump, but also be ready for the lowest handicapped (aka hardest) hole on the course. Don’t leave all your long irons (or short woods) at home though, the turn back the clubhouse on holes 7 and 8 measure in at over 210 yards. It’s a great, fun course that everyone, from new to experienced golfers, can enjoy.
A Round of Drinks
The Snowflake Club Bar is well-known for its friendly staff and great bar food and drinks. (The Monday night Wings are especially popular, with nine flavors to choose from!) The club house often hosts Customer Appreciation Night, with food, drink, and golf specials, and raffles as well. For the most up-to-date information on their current specials and offerings (such as $2 pizza night or batter-fried fish), as well as course closings/openings, check out their Facebook page.
A Brief History of the Snowflake Ski and Golf Club
The all-volunteer Westby Ski Club was officially formed in 1922, and held its first ski jumping tournament in 1923. Various hills and smaller jumps were used in the tournaments until 1961, when the current Olympic-length hill debuted at 112 meters. The annual Snowflake Ski Jumping Tournament, held each year in February, is host to US and international ski jumpers, and is an event the whole community looks forward to as well. The Snowflake Golf Course opened in 1989 to provide an additional source of income for the area during the summer season, as well as to allow the community and its visitors to enjoy the spring, summer, and fall months in the Timber Coulee.
