So the first question to ask yourself when you’re going horseback riding in Wisconsin is: do I want to bring my own horse or do a trail ride?
Riding Your Own Horse
These gorgeous nature spots have excellent trails for horseback riding:
1. Kickapoo Valley Reserve
The Kickapoo Valley Reserve offers approximately forty miles of horseback riding trails. These trails go up and down steep terrain. You will also have the opportunity to view a variety of wildlife. If you are interested in riding your horse for several days in a row, Kickapoo Valley Reserve also has camping sites with corrals. Be sure to check their website for details on permits and fees. We’ve written more about the Kickapoo Valley Reserve on our blog.
2. Wildcat Mountain State Park
Wildcat Mountain State Park borders the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, but both offer different horse trail experiences. The fifteen miles of horse trails have 24 campsites as well. The passes are different than the ones at KVR, so plan ahead if you’ll be crossing over. We’ve written more about Wildcat Mountain State Park on our blog.
