The Growers Produce Auction
Like any auction, the Growers Produce Auction is fast-paced, so it’s best to have your bearings before you go. Here are some of the things you need to know about the Growers Produce Auction!
1. Days, Times, Location
This year’s Growers Produce Auction is April 19 – October 18. During May – September, the auction takes place every Tuesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. But in April and October, it’s on Wednesdays. (The last two weeks in April and the first three weeks in October.) There are some exceptions for special auctions, holidays, or fundraisers. So be sure to check the 2017 Growers Auction Schedule for exact dates. The address is S 347 Dell Road, Cashton, WI.
2. Memorial Day and Labor Day Auctions
The Memorial Day and Labor Day auctions draw by far the largest crowds. On these days, Amish-made furniture, quilts, crafts, and other handmade items are also for sale. The auctions on these days begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at approximately 4:30 p.m. (Check out this blog post for more about our local Amish communities and their goods!)
3. The Items You’ll Find
As we already mentioned, the diversity of items increases greatly on Memorial Day and Labor Day. Typical items for auction are: in-season produce, potted plants, handmade baskets, and rugs. For a month-by-month specific overview of what’s in season, check out the pamphlet on their website. And note: no credit cards are accepted, so be prepared with cash or a check.
4. The Growers and Sellers
Most of the growers and sellers live within a hundred-mile radius of the Growers Produce Auction. In many cases, what you’re buying was probably picked fresh only hours before the auction.
5. Enjoy Yourself!
You’re likely to find some excellent deals at the Growers Produce Auction! But even if you don’t buy anything, it’s a great place to people watch, get swept up in the energy, and see the variety of items for sale. Also: be on the lookout for someone who just bought more than they intended to buy. Auctions move quickly, and when this happens, you might be able to make an even better private deal with the buyer to take any unwanted items off their hands.
