With Valentine’s reminding us that February is half over, it is also the time  that a Fly-fisherman’s heart turns to the Early Catch and Release Season in  Southwest Wisconsin.  Avid anglers will muster to the Driftless Area to cast in the season on Saturday, March 6, 2010.    The Westby Wisconsin area alone has over 200 miles of Class A trout streams and all within a short drive of the Westby House Bed & Breakfast.  The large snow totals received so far this winter will be great for future waters in the streams and creeks. The Driftless Angler Fly Shop in Viroqua will open on March 1st.  Now is the time to Think Spring!

New Cross Country Ski Trail Now Open in Westby

The owner of Mt. Boriah Designs, a bicycle apparel manufacturer,  and the Snowflake Ski Club has brought cross country skiing to the Snowflake Ski Club of Westby Wisconsin.  The one-kilometer man-made track runs through the golf course  of  Timber Coulee, which is  just 5 miles from the Westby House Bed and Breakfast.  Chris Jackson started the Snowflake Nordic Ski Club  by creating a program for youngsters of the community.  Registration day flourished with an unpredictable  forty kids for the classes.  The trail is open to the public, and you need to provide your own equipment.  Cross country skiing is fun and easy to learn.

travel-green-consumer_logoThe Westby House bed & breakfast near La Crosse is certified ‘Green’ under the Wisconsin Travel Green program. The inn’s green program practices recycling of plastics, newspapers, glass and cans as well as  conserving energies through lighting, heating and water reduction.  The Westby House Inn has been certified “Green” by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.  After completing a 16-page application, we received the official Seal of Approval to become a “Green’” lodging property as part of the ‘Travel Green Wisconsin’ program.  The purpose of the program is for businesses  to conserve energy, water, to recycle and to help save the environment.  For more information on the program and to view our certification review visit www.travelgreenwisconsin.com

Every February world-wide athletes flock to Westby for it’s annual Ski Jumping  Tournament held only 23 miles Southeast of La Crosse, Wisconsin. The 2009 dates are February 7 & 8th.  Opening ceremonies begin at 12:30 pm.  The Westby House Victorian Inn is only 3 miles from the event.  A reminder, that buttons are required to attend: $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the gate.
