Nature Hike at Reserve

Celebrate Earth Day, April 17, 2010, with a walk amongst nature.  Tour the Kickapoo Reserve’s natural sights and sounds.  The Reserve is located 25 minutes from the Westby House B&B.  Weather and wildlife permitting participants will listen for frogs, cranes, and woodcocks and search out spring ephemerals.  Dress for the weather. Nature Hike is 9:00 am -11:00 am.     Pre-registration- 608-625-2960

Annual Clean-up: 12;00 pm – 4:30 pm  -April 17, 2010 at Reserve. Volunteers are asked to pick up roadway litter in the area. Stop at the Visitor Center for supplies and a commemorative gift. Advance sign-up is required.

Guest Lodge at Westby House B&B

You know Spring is coming in the La C rosse area when the Guest Lodge at the Westby House B&B comes out of winter hiatus. Reservations can be made for overnight stays in the Pinewood and Scandia Rooms starting April 1, 2010.  Located close to Viroqua, the Guest Lodge is ideal for the fly-fisher, the outdoors enthusiast, or someone looking for a “Refined Touch of Rustic in the City”.  The spiral stairs lead to an open loft bedroom area. While the first floor offers a mini-kitchenette with small appliances and dishes, sitting area, dining area, and full bath.  The private outdoor entrance and in-room continental breakfast add to the seclusion from the Main House accommodations.  Single rates and double rates are offered in the Guest Lodge. A happy Spring will bring May flowers!

Edible Antics – Having Fun with Food in Wisconsin (http://food-fun.wisconsinfood.com) Publisher Cristie Hurd got creative with the Pumpkin Walnut Crisp recipe from the Westby House Victorian Inn by substituting old hubbard squash for the pumpkin. The results were a sweet cinnamon and nutty flavor and healthy with the oats crisp topping.  This recipe is also featured in the just released Wisconsin Bed & Breakfast

Just Released B&B Cookbook

Association Cookbook  which can be purchased through the Associations web site or by calling the Westby House at 608-634-4112.  A bonus in the  cookbook are recipes from the associations annual cook-off,  in which the Westby House placed third. All cook-off entries had to include cranberries and the Waffles with  Cranberry Topping and Cinnamon  Cream Syrup is a wonderful winter breakfast delight. Fall foliage reports for Southwest Wisconsin can be watched on the Wisconsin Department of Tourism web site, www.travelwisconsin.com.  Check the report and plan your Fall getaway to include the Westby House  B&B in Westby. Peak colors in the Southwest have a good chance of being viewed the first two weekends in October.  Many area festivals and events occur in these two weekends including Octoberfest in La Crosse.

July 11 and 12th is the Viroqua Gospel and Bluegrass Music Festival at the Vernon County
