Reservations can be made for overnight stays in the Pinewood and Scandia Rooms starting April 1, 2010.  Located close to Viroqua, the Guest Lodge is ideal for the fly-fisher, the outdoors enthusiast, or someone looking for a “Refined Touch of Rustic in the City”.  The spiral stairs lead to an open loft bedroom area. While the first floor offers a mini-kitchenette with small appliances and dishes, sitting area, dining area, and full bath.  The private outdoor entrance and in-room continental breakfast add to the seclusion from the Main House accommodations.  Single rates and double rates are offered in the Guest Lodge. A happy Spring will bring May flowers!

Wisconsin Early Fishing Season in Driftless Area

Wisconsin’s Early Fishing Season opened today with this fishing report posted by Matt of the Driftless Angler Fly Shop in downtown Viroqua.  The Fly Shop is located only 7 miles from the Westby House Inn.
Talk about prime conditions for the anglers!   Cast away anglers until March 25th.  Regular fishing season starts April 1st.

Great winter fishing conditions.  The water is still clear, the sun will be shining all day, and bugs will start getting active around 11:00 today.  Look for rising fish between 11 and 3 to winter stoneflies and midges.
Fish sub surface with bottom rolling patterns and slowly pulled leeches.  Most fish will be at the bottom of pools in the morning and evening, sliding up into the flats below riffles to feed in the afternoon.

With Valentine’s reminding us that February is half over, it is also the time  that a Fly-fisherman’s heart turns to the Early Catch and Release Season in  Southwest Wisconsin.  Avid anglers will muster to the Driftless Area to cast in the season on Saturday, March 6, 2010.    The Westby Wisconsin area alone has over 200 miles of Class A trout streams and all within a short drive of the Westby House Bed & Breakfast.  The large snow totals received so far this winter will be great for future waters in the streams and creeks. The Driftless Angler Fly Shop in Viroqua will open on March 1st.  Now is the time to Think Spring!
