Country singer Pam Tillis will be performing at the Temple Theatre in Viroqua on October 24, 2009.  Concert Rates at the Westby House Bed & Breakfast range from $81 to $135 in the Main House and $166 to $185 in the Guest House Suites.  Concert tickets ($22/person)  can be purchased through the Westby House or at Ole & Lena Kaffe Hus in Westby.  The  historic Temple  Theatre occupies the center section of a 1922 classical revival style building in the center of Viroqua, Wisconsin’s Main Street.  Installing new riggings for stage curtains and a new stage floor in November, 2002 signaled the completion of the restoration.

Each Saturday over 50 farmers and vendors from across the countryside come into our historic downtown to sell their fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and nuts at the Farmers Market.  Several local Amish families also come to the market to sell their handmade items. They bring beautiful baskets made with old-world craftsmanship, woven rugs and wall hangings, and of course beautiful quilts. The Farmers Market opens the last day of May and continues every Saturday until the last Saturday of October.

Westby’s (Wisconsin) Norwegian heritage is celebrated each year with a festival called   Syttende Mai (meaning May17th). May 17th is  Norway’s Constitution Day. Events throughout the weekend include traditional foods, music, arts and crafts. live entertainment in the evenings. Bike Tour, 5k Run/Walk, Rosemaling, Troll Hunt, Ole & Lena Kaffe Hus, two parades and more.  The perfect lodging location is the Westby House B&B. Taking  a weekend escape to three  La Crosse area Wisconsin State Parks  is a sure way to explore the Driftless Area and with a stay at the Westby House bed & breakfast.  Three State Parks are with-in 45 minute drive through the hills and valleys and along the Mississippi River of the Westby House B&B.

Perrot State Park, where the Trempealeau River meets the Mississippi River, has 1,270 acres of diverse ecosystems. The river bank and surrounding wetlands provide wonderful habitat for the many migratory birds that travel through this area twice a year. Hardwood forests with mature black walnut, oak, and hickory are home to many animals, birds, and woodland wildflowers. Unique to southwestern Wisconsin and Perrot are the goat prairies perched high on the bluffs
.

In a steep ridge overlooking the scenic Kickapoo River Valley, Wildcat Mountain State Park offers hiking trails with spectacular views and horseback riders. Canoe the Kickapoo River in your own canoe or rent from canoe rentals in Ontario. The park’s 3,603 acres, mostly wooded, contain 25.8 miles of trails.

To the South of La Crosse  is the Wyalusing State Park at 500 feet above the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. One of Wisconsin’s oldest parks, Wyalusing features Indian burial mounds, canoe trail, bird watching. It’s a place to go for fishing, boating, bicycling, picnicking, and enjoying nature. There are an interpretive center and four historical markers within the park.

Weekend Escape to three La Crosse area Wisconsin State Parks allows you the joy of a b&b experience in Westby.  Journey to these three state parks that are with-in 45 minutes of the  Westby House bed & breakfast.  Wildcat Mountian State Park in located near Ontario. Offering 3,603 acres, mostly wooded, and containing 25.8 miles of hiking trails,17.5 miles of trails for snowshoeing , 15 miles of horse trails, 7 miles of cross-country ski trails, 1.3 miles of interpretive nature trail, and 0.4 miles of trail accessible for people with disabilitie.  The vistas are specatular from many lookout points and rock cropouts.

Traveling south on the Great River Road Hwy. 35, Wyalusing’s 2,628 acres include hardwood forests, pine plantations, bluffs, springs, waterfalls, wetlands, and backwaters. The park is home to deer, beavers, fox, and many other animals. More than 90 bird species live here during the summer and 100 more can be observed during spring and fall migration. They include wild turkeys, bald eagles, turkey vultures, hawks, owls, waterfowl, woodpeckers, and a colorful variety of songbirds.  Making the Westby House your base for overnight accommodations will add to a wonderful weekend escape of Parking it Wisconsin State Parks!
